Job Description

The role is to safely coordinate, supervise, and monitor civil construction activities for Capital Projects, ensuring contractors, site teams, resources, and schedules and effectively managed to support timely project delivery.

Safety and Environmental Compliance

  • Promote and enforce OceanaGold’s Zero Harn standards across all assigned construction activities.
  • Monitor work practices to prevent injuries, environmental impacts, and property or equipment damage.
  • Ensure contractors comply with applicable site safety, environmental, and project requirements.

Civil Construction and Contractor Supervision

  • Plan, coordinate, and directly supervisor day (and night shift where applicable) civil construction activities.
  • Manage contractor’s daily field activities to ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Provide technical guidance and support the development and implementation of project procedures
  • Ensure efficient operation for equipment and personnel

Project and Resource Coordination

  • Coordinate filed interfaces among the Project Planners, QA/QC, Surveyor’s, Contractors, Engineer’s, third parties, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Laise with Mine Operations, Mobile Maintenance, all relevant Departments, and third parties to coordinate materials, equipment, and operational support for project activities.
  • Identify resource and capability needs and coordinate available resources to support effective project execution.

Schedule Monitoring and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate daily records of work completed incidents, progress, delays, and milestone achievements.
  • Track project activities against schedule and provide timely data for daily, weekly, and monthly reporting.
  • Proactively identify and escalate risks, delays, or events that may adversely affect project delivery.

Operating Budget:

  • No direct budget responsibility.
  • Provides input into Capital Projects budgets and manages approved project expenditure as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical qualification in civil construction, earthworks, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a civil construction supervisory position.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience supervising contractors, coordinating field activities, and supporting project schedules.
  • Minimum 5 years of bulk earthworks experience.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with large mining or heavy-equipment fleets
  • Experience in tailings storage facility construction is preferred.
  • Experience working in high-rainfall environments and implementing sediment-control measures preferred.

  • Complies with all site safety requirements, procedures, and mandatory training.
  • Actively promotes a positive safety culture and visible safety practices.
  • Identifies, communicates, and supports the control on construction and operational hazards.

Knowledge & Core Functional Competencies:

  • Bulk Earthworks and civil construction methods.
  • Field supervision and contractor management.
  • Heavy equipment and mine-fleet coordination.
  • Construction planning, scheduling, and resource coordination.
  • Interpretation of construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
  • Tailings storage facility construction principles.
  • Erosion, sediments, and stormwater-control practices.
  • Construction QA/QC requirements.
  • Progress monitoring, recordkeeping, and project reporting.
  • Ability to identify and escalate safety, quality, resource, and schedule risks.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in both office and operational mining environments.
  • Ability to regularly access active mining and processing areas to support operational teams, conduct site visits, investigations, coaching, and workforce engagement activities.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs and access elevated work areas as required.
  • Ability to wear and use mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE)

Licenses/Tickets:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Required site and regulatory training must be completed and maintained.
  • MSHA certification preferred; ability to obtain upon hire and maintain throughout employment is required
  • Ability to obtain certified Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector (CEPSCI) certificate
