About this role

The future of aerospace and defense starts here.

Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.

The Supplier Engineering Technician II supports the qualification, management, and improvement of suppliers across Ursa Major’s entire supply base. This role takes ownership of the Approved Vendor List (AVL), technical documentation flow, and supplier-facing quality and engineering issues, working closely with world-class engineers and supply chain professionals. Common day-to-day activities include maintaining supplier records and approvals, reviewing drawings and specifications for compliance, coordinating technical data requests with suppliers, and authoring discrepancy reports and deviation requests when issues arise. As part of a collaborative team, the Supplier Engineering Tech will frequently support other hardware categories and assemblies as needed. This role reports directly to the Supplier Engineering Lead.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and continuously improve the Approved Vendor List (AVL), including supplier onboarding, status changes, and removal in coordination with Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain.
  • Review supplier documentation (e.g., drawings, specifications, certificates of conformance, test reports, material certifications, process certifications) for technical completeness and compliance with requirements.
  • Communicate with suppliers to request, clarify, and resolve technical data needs, including CAD models, drawings, specifications, inspection reports, and other engineering documentation.
  • Author Discrepancy Reports (DRs) related to supplier-provided hardware and documentation issues.
  • Generate and manage deviation and waiver requests in coordination with Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain when supplied hardware does not fully meet requirements but may be acceptable for use.
  • Support supplier-related root cause and corrective action activities, including data collection, failure analysis support, and tracking implementation of corrective actions.
  • Support Supplier Engineering in developing and documenting supplier-related processes, standards, and work instructions (e.g., supplier qualification, documentation review workflows, DR/deviation processes).
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing) to ensure supplier capabilities and documentation align with product requirements and program needs.
  • Maintain clear and orderly records and data in relevant systems to ensure traceability and minimize risk of documentation errors or omissions.
  • Facilitate Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) with suppliers, including initiating RMA requests, coordinating logistics for returning nonconforming material, tracking RMA status, and ensuring appropriate credits, replacements, or repairs are processed in a timely manner.
  • Support Supply Chain by updating contractual due dates, follow up with PO acknowledgments, update tracking and closing Purchase Orders as necessary.
  • Data maintenance, migration and minor reporting as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supplier Engineering Lead.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School degree (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical, or supply chain discipline preferred).
  • 3 years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or supplier-facing roles in a high product complexity environment, such as Space, Aerospace, Defense, or Medical.
  • Strong time management and attention to detail, particularly in handling technical documentation and multiple supplier interfaces.
  • Understanding of engineering models and drawings (basic GD&T knowledge).
  • Familiarity with quality documentation, discrepancy reporting, and/or deviation/waiver processes.
  • Strong understanding of AS9102 requirements and First Article Inspection (FAI) processes, including reviewing and/or preparing AS9102 forms with suppliers.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with external suppliers and internal stakeholders.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Excellent in-person and written communication skills, including experience drafting technical emails and reports.
  • Experience managing projects or initiatives with multiple stakeholders, particularly cross-functional teams (Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain).
  • 3 years of experience in inspection, supplier quality, manufacturing engineering, or similar technical role.
  • Space industry or other high-reliability industry experience.
  • Familiarity with project and data management tools, such as MS Project, MS Excel, PLM/ERP systems, Wrike, or Github.
