Overview
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director/Coordinator and in accordance with the mission of the YMCA, the Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons according to YMCA of the USA program standards.Â

Responsibilities
- Teach swim lessons according to YMCA of the USA standardsÂ
- Create a positive learning environment through personal enthusiasmÂ
- Be safety-conscious, maintain order and enforce rules during lessons to ensure swimmer safetyÂ
- Keep accurate records of attendance and skills achieved by each student, each session
- Provide each  student with written records of progressÂ
- Use swim aids effectively to maximize each individual’s practice timeÂ
- Utilize written lesson plans for each lesson to make the most efficient use of class time
-  Participate in all staff meetings and in-service trainingÂ
- Conduct program evaluationsÂ
-  Carries out additional duties as assigned by supervisorÂ
Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years oldÂ
- Must successfully complete, and maintain current certification, as a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (24 hours) prior to teaching alone or within 90 days if a current Red Cross Swim InstructorÂ
- Current status in the following certifications, to be renewed annually:Â
- Professional Level CPRÂ
- First AidÂ
- Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)Â
- Oxygen AdministrationÂ
- Must complete the following trainings before working first shift and are to be renewed annually: Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention.Â
- Must complete YMCA of Greater Charlotte New Staff Connection prior to employmentÂ
- Must complete I Create Loyalty Training within 30 days of hireÂ
- Must successfully complete at least 4 hours teaching under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Director/Coordinator or an experienced instructor before leading a class independentlyÂ
- Must present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skillsÂ

Posted Salary Range
USD $11.25 - USD $13.25 /Hr.
