Mission: Why This Role Exists

The Checkout Pod is responsible for the core payment experience, managing the entire customer journey from checkout initiation to payment completion. We empower merchants by providing versatile, secure, and highly customizable integration options that cater to diverse business models across the continent.

• Seamless Integration: Powering merchant platforms through robust SDKs and APIs that embed our payment infrastructure directly into the user journey.
• High-Conversion Hosted Pages: Evolving secure, compliant, domain-hosted checkout experiences designed to maximize conversion and build customer trust.
• Scalable Multi-use Channels: Engineering reusable payment solutions to support complex recurring billing and batch transaction requirements.
• Bespoke Customization: Delivering advanced configuration tools that allow merchants to align checkout aesthetics and logic with their unique brand identity.
• Infrastructure Innovation: Scaling high-availability systems while shipping cutting-edge features that anticipate market trends and merchant demands.

Role expectations

• Technical Strategy & Architecture: Guide the pod’s system architecture, ensuring solutions are maintainable, scalable, and balance short-term feature needs with long-term system health (tech debt management).
• Delivery Ownership: Drive the pod’s technical delivery by creating and maintaining plans that mitigate risks, identify dependencies, and ensure predictable results.
• Quality Leadership: Maintain a high bar for engineering standards. Actively contribute code, perform thorough code reviews, and champion best practices in testing, observability, and security.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers to align technical efforts with the roadmap. Act as a key decision-maker and tie-breaker for technical trade-offs within the Checkout space.
• System Resilience: Ensure the Checkout infrastructure (APIs, SDKs, Hosted Pages) is resilient, compliant, and performant, particularly during peak transaction volumes.

Competencies: What You Bring

Technical Expertise:

• Experience: 8+ years of experience in software engineering as a full-stack developer.
• Architectural Leadership: Serve as the primary technical authority in the Checkout Pod, guiding architectural decisions that align with the broader Engineering Strategy.
• Hands-On Excellence: Actively contribute to code, lead design sessions for complex features (e.g., payment integrations, embedded checkout components), and guide deployment strategies.
• Full-Stack Proficiency: Strong expertise in the required stack (Python/TypeScript, AWS/Serverless, and relevant databases like MongoDB/PostgreSQL).
• Domain Knowledge (Optional): An understanding of payment ecosystems, security compliance (PCI-DSS), and transaction flow management is a plus.

• Strategic Delivery: Ability to decompose high-level business ideas into actionable, high-value technical deliverables.
• Ownership Mindset: Takes initiative to own projects end-to-end, thriving in a fast-paced environment where you effectively manage trade-offs between innovation and stability.
• Proactive Diagnosis: Independently diagnose and propose solutions for complex production incidents using logs, monitoring (Datadog/Sentry/Grafana), and code analysis.
