Job Description

At TAL, the TPD CoE Claims Technical Specialist plays a pivotal role in contributing to best practice standards and processes for TPD claim assessment and uplifting capability through targeted training and embedding best practice frameworks. 

By guiding complex decision making and strengthening standards across our Group and Individual claims team, this role upholds the integrity of our products and promises we make to customers. It’s an opportunity to drive continuous improvements, build capability, and make a meaningful impact – supporting better outcomes for Australians at the moments that matter most. 

In this role you will:

  • Lead specialist resource and panel governance to ensure high-quality TPD assessment outcomes.
  • Build team capability through targeted coaching, training, and adoption of best practice frameworks.
  • Elevate independent medical examination standards through technical reviews and provider oversight.
  • Influence complex claim decisions using evidence-based insights aligned to TPD policy definitions.
  • Strengthen governance and compliance by embedding claims standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement by leveraging insights and emerging trends to enhance performance and customer outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years' experience in life insurance claims within technical or leadership roles
  • Deep expertise in TPD claims and end-to-end assessment processes
  • Strong knowledge of medico-legal frameworks, ETE, employability and policy definitions
  • Sound understanding of regulatory requirements including the Life Insurance Code of Practice, ICA and privacy principles
  • Ability to build capability and confidence in others through training and guidance
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence outcomes constructively
