About this role

Freese and Nichols is searching for an experienced Transportation Engineer to join our Central Texas Team in Austin or San Antonio. You will serve as a project engineer supporting projects related to transportation. We want to grow future leaders and technical experts and are deeply committed to employee development and training. As a Transportation Engineer you will: 

  • Work for numerous clients in the Central Texas area including municipalities, counties, and TxDOT helping to improve the community we live in 

  • Utilize criteria and design standards to perform engineering tasks related to project development 

  • Interface with clients and develop strong working relationships through project interaction 

  • Provide direction and instruction to drafting and design personnel assigned to projects and coordinate these activities for efficient completion of work. 

  • Gather, correlate, and utilize raw data for the formation of a product suitable for review.  Perform calculations and analyses necessary to complete assigned projects. 

  • Oversee and review the work of CAD technicians/designers, entry-level engineers and interns 

  • Complete expert design activities that meet requirements of established criteria and applicable design manuals 

  • Supervisor the timely and accurate completion of design plans, specifications reports and studies. 

  • Performs quality control on deliverables and provides Continuous Improvement input 

  • Share your expertise and passion by guiding and training junior engineers. Help us build the next generation of transportation professionals. 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation engineering 

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Texas OR ability to obtain the license within 6 months 

  • 6+ years of experience of roadway design 

Preferred: 

  • Experience using MicroStation and Open Roads Designer, 

  • Familiar with concepts and standards of the MUTCD, HCM and AASHTO Geometric Design. 

  • Ability to participate and collaborate within a project team setting. 

  • Strong technical skills in roadway and drainage design 

  • Experience in working on or with the Texas Department of Transportation and understanding their design requirements and/or LGPP Projects
