About this role

UI/UX CONSULTANT

Freeform builds AI-native manufacturing systems that unify software, hardware, and physics to produce industrial-scale parts at the speed of human ideation. By treating manufacturing as a single integrated system, we unlock a new era of innovation where complex hardware is designed, built, and scaled without limits.Ā

We are seeking a skilled UI/UX Consultant to design and develop an intuitive user interface forĀ Freeform’sĀ homegrown ERP and manufacturing execution system. The ideal candidate will have experience creating user-friendly, efficient interfaces that enhance system usability and enable operators to work with clarity and speed. This project involves designing mockups of key screens, building a foundational UIĀ componentĀ library, and developing persona-specific user flows centered around production, order fulfillment, and invoicing. You will partner closely with ourĀ software engineering team and internal stakeholdersĀ to shape the visual and interaction layer that makes our enterprise platformĀ truly usefulĀ to the people who depend on it every day.Ā

This person needs to be local to the Greater Los Angeles areaĀ for ad hoc in-person meetings and stakeholder feedback sessions. Much of the work can be done from home otherwise.Ā Ā

Responsibilities:

  • Partner withĀ software engineers and internal stakeholdersĀ to translate complex ERP and manufacturing workflows into clear, usable interfacesĀ
  • Design and deliver high-fidelity mockups and wireframes for key screens across production, order fulfillment, and invoicing workflowsĀ
  • Build and document a foundational UIĀ componentĀ library to ensure consistency across the applicationĀ
  • Develop persona-specific user flows tailored to the needs of operators, production managers, and finance usersĀ
  • Conduct user research and gather requirements by working cross-functionally with engineering and operations teamsĀ
  • Iterate on designs based on stakeholder feedback and usability testing, with a pragmatic focus on functionality and clarity over aesthetics aloneĀ
  • Produce design assets and specifications in a format that integrates cleanly with React or Next.js frontend developmentĀ

Basic Qualifications:Ā Ā

  • 3+ years of professional UI/UX design experience, with a portfolioĀ demonstratingĀ work on complex, data-heavyĀ enterpriseĀ or operations softwareĀ
  • ProficiencyĀ in a modern design tool such as Figma for creating wireframes, prototypes, andĀ componentĀ librariesĀ
  • Experience designing user flows for multiple distinct user personas with different goals and technical backgroundsĀ
  • Strong ability to gather and synthesize requirements from non-design stakeholders and translate them into actionable design specificationsĀ
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with engineers, delivering handoff-ready assets andĀ maintainingĀ open communication throughout implementationĀ

Nice to Have:Ā Ā

  • Familiarity with ERP systems, MES platforms, or manufacturing and supply chain softwareĀ
  • Experience designing for React or Next.js-based frontends, with an understanding of component-driven design systemsĀ
  • Background in UX research methodologies including user interviews, task analysis, and usability testingĀ
  • Prior experience working at a startup or in a fast-paced environment where requirements evolve quickly and autonomy is expectedĀ
  • Exposure to industrial, hardware, or deep tech environments where users are operators, engineers, or technicians rather than general consumersĀ

Location:Ā Ā

  • Based in Hawthorne, our vertically integrated facility brings technology development, R&D, and production together under one roof. WeĀ operateĀ at the center of LA’s deep tech ecosystem, surrounded by some of the most ambitious hardware innovation happening anywhere in the country.Ā
  • This is a contract/freelance engagement. While some flexibility may be accommodated, preference is given to candidates who can collaborate onsite at our Hawthorne facility.Ā
