Position Summary

The Veteran & Military Community Center Assistant works in the Veteran & Military Community Center within the Campus Operations department. They provide support to the VMCC Associate Director, VMCC Coordinator, School Certifying Officials, and Veteran/Military Students and/or their dependents by assisting Veteran students with general inquiries about Veteran benefits, Veteran’s activities, and assisting with outreach. They may attend webinars, student orientations, and on-campus training seminars related to VA Education Benefits. Additional responsibilities may include other tasks related to on-campus Veteran Services as assigned.

Location: Onsite Spectrum Center, San Diego, CA

Essential Functions:

  • Answers phone calls, directs students on campus and over the phone, sends and receives emails and answers questions to walk-in students.
  • Assists Veteran students with general inquiries about Veteran benefits they can receive on and off campus, Veteran’s activities, directing students to other student support service locations at the University.
  • Assists and participates in outreach within the community and with on-campus efforts and events.
  • Collects, compiles, and tracks data in support of the Veteran & Military Community Center.
  • Performs basic data analysis and generates reports.
  • Conducts other clerical, office duties as required.
  • Maintains positive relationships with student support departments, in order to facilitate services to students receiving Veteran-related educational entitlements.
  • Assists with the development and distribution of accurate and current Veterans publications to relevant constituencies (brochures, flyers, posters and web content).
  • Assists with maintaining regulatory, information security and confidentiality compliance in accordance with federal, state and NU guidelines.
  • Maintains most current information and updates by attending required trainings to support VMCC Assoc. Director, VMCC Coordinator, School Certifying Officials, and Veteran/Military Students.

Requirements:

  • Current NU student receiving Veteran Education Benefits under Title 38, U.S.C., Chapters 30, 31, 32, 33, 35, 1606, and Edith N. Rogers STEM Scholarship.
  • Enrolled in and pursuing an approved program of education at a rate of 3/4 time or greater during the work study semester.
  • Maintain good academic standing according to NU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy.
  • Ability to meet National University’s employee performance and campus dress code standards.
  • Experience in customer service and customer relations.

Technical / Functional Skills:

  • Fundamental understanding of Veterans Education Benefits.
  • Basic computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to complete projects in a timely manner.

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies.  Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position. The minimum salary will be offered based on the minimum exemption threshold based on state of residency.
