Job Description
*This position provides support to the surgical operations department by acting in the roles of room circulator, prep and anesthesia technician. This position requires considerable knowledge of and ability to perform a variety of surgery technician responsibilities, interaction with veterinarians, study directors and engineers in support of pre-clinical studies.Â

*Know and maintain compliance with GLP, FDA, USDA, AAALAC, IACUC and all regulations and guidelines as they applyÂ
*Understand and execute on Standard Operating Procedures, work instructions, department guidelines, policies and study protocolsÂ
*Perform general housekeeping duties such as cleaning, stocking and organizing which includes:Â
Check equipment calibration datesÂ
Check for expired drugsÂ
Perform Laundry dutiesÂ
Pull supplies for upcoming studiesÂ
*Ensure surgical and procedure rooms are clean, set up for all procedures and comply with quality room checks at the end of the dayÂ
Clean, package, sterilize and distribute all instruments, equipment and suppliesÂ
Data entry and clerical functionsÂ
*Support human cadaver proceduresÂ
*Be available for late night or weekend workÂ
*Perform and assess radiographs using a computed radiography systemÂ
*Use proper handling of controlled substance.Â
*Perform the role of OR circulator, including but not limited to:Â
*Prepare an operating room for chronic proceduresÂ
Open sterile productÂ
Operate a fluoroscopy machine to collect and save imagesÂ
Perform contrast injections for angiographyÂ
Transfer data to a PACS system and ensure data integrityÂ
*Perform the role of anesthesia technician, including, but not limited to:Â
Perform pre-op physical exam and ASA status evaluationÂ
Perform drug calculationsÂ
Perform blood collectionsÂ
Anesthesia induction and intubation of pigs, sheep, calves, dogs, rabbits and rodentsÂ
Operate anesthesia machine, anesthesia monitoring equipment and fluid/drug pumps for anesthesia maintenanceÂ
Perform anesthesia monitoring including EtCO2, invasive blood pressure, Capnograph and spO2.Â
Perform euthanasia on animals independent of a veterinarianÂ
Place arterial and intravenous cathetersÂ
Place urinary catheters
Qualifications
Certified Veterinary Technician with at least 1-2 years of experience with animal restraint, venipuncture, radiology, anesthesia and recovery.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Â
• Able to read, understand and follow department and facility procedures and policies.Â
• Demonstrate legible handwritingÂ
• Experience handling multiple animal speciesÂ
• Experience working independently and in a team environmentÂ
• Experience communicating individually and within a teamÂ
• Experience working with computer applications and web-based applicationsÂ
