Who You Are

  • An experienced video maker with a proven track record of producing long-form and interview YouTube content
  • A producer with a deep understanding of YouTube best practice, what drives engagement, how to develop scripts that sparkle, book the smartest names in science and research and write narratives arcs that compel viewers to watch more
  • Have a great eye for thumbnails and titles
  • Someone with a solid background in science and telling science-based stories
  • A digital journalist at heart: curious, observant, and constantly digging for what’s interesting whether it's a unique story angle, explosive new science researchor a cultural moment
  • Familiar with YouTube analytics, and have experience of using data to shape production decisions
  • Someone with strong organisational and project management skills, with experience delivering multiple, complex productions on time
  • A problem-solver who thrives under pressure and keeps projects moving
  • On-camera skills are a big plus, but not a deal-breaker

In this role you will

  • Pitch and produce YouTube-native video ideas that reflect New Scientist’s world-leading science journalism
  • Write and edit scripts, shape narratives, lead shoots, and deliver sharp editorial and explainer-led content
  • Host or direct on-screen talent to tell unique, rigorously researched and entertaining science stories
  • Produce and develop our long form interview format by booking the best talent, deeply researching their background and presenting novel angles and unique questions that makes our content stand out.
  • Coordinate with writers, editors, animators, guests and designers to keep projects moving and aligned with deadlines and budgets
  • Coordinate filming logistics, including locations, contributors and travel
  • Manage production contracts, invoices and other admin associated with our YouTube video production
  • Review key YouTube metrics and feed insights back into content and workflow decisions
  • Liaise with external agencies and brand partners to produce sponsored segments, handle approvals, and ensure deliverables meet client expectations
  • Drive channel growth through great content
  • Continually improve our workflows and processes

This role is about producing videos of the highest standard. You’ll coordinate with writers, editors, animators, and thumbnail designers, keeping everyone aligned, managing deadlines, and ensuring videos are optimised for YouTube performance.
