Job Summary and Responsibilities
Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital and Level III Trauma Center offering a broad range of inpatient, outpatient, emergency, surgical, imaging, rehabilitation, women’s health, and rural clinic services. The Vice President of Ancillary Services provides executive oversight for ancillary and support service departments, ensuring operational excellence, strategic program development, financial stewardship, and high-quality patient care delivery across all areas of responsibility. This leader is accountable for driving performance through effective human resource management, quality improvement initiatives, productivity optimization, and the achievement of key operational and clinical performance indicators.The VP plans, directs, and maintains staffing models that support safe, efficient, and patient-centered care delivery on a 24-hour basis. In collaboration with department leaders, medical directors, physicians, executive leadership, and the Board of Directors, this role fosters strong interdisciplinary partnerships to ensure services are delivered in a timely, cost-effective, and high-quality manner aligned with organizational goals and community needs.
This role serves as a key operational leader for the hospital, providing strategic and operational oversight across ancillary and support services while partnering closely with executive leadership to advance organizational growth, operational performance, physician engagement, and community presence. The VP will play a highly visible leadership role within the hospital and local community, helping strengthen Mercy Mt. Shasta’s position as a trusted healthcare provider serving Siskiyou County and the surrounding region.

• Provides strategic and operational oversight for ancillary and support service departments, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care delivery across all areas of responsibility
• Serves as a key onsite operational leader and trusted partner to executive leadership, supporting daily hospital operations and organizational priorities in a highly collaborative environment
• Partners closely with physicians, medical staff, department leaders, and community stakeholders to strengthen relationships, support service-line growth, and enhance market presence within the region
• Leads operational initiatives focused on productivity management, labor optimization, financial stewardship, service excellence, and quality performance improvement
• Oversees departmental budgets, operational performance metrics, and strategic growth initiatives while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, patient access, and long-term sustainability
• Supports physician recruitment, provider engagement, and medical staff relationships while helping foster strong collaboration across clinical and operational teams
• Provides oversight and partnership across ancillary and clinical support functions, which may include imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, rehabilitation, facilities, EVS, dietary, rural health clinics, and additional operational areas
• Participates in strategic planning efforts focused on organizational growth, community needs, innovation, and maintaining Mercy Mt. Shasta’s position as a leading rural healthcare provider in Northern California
• Assists with operational oversight related to contracts, leases, and facility partnerships in collaboration with organizational leadership and support teams
• Promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and service excellence while supporting employee engagement and development
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a related healthcare or ancillary services field required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive direct management experience required.
- Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing complex operational, financial, and human resource functions preferred.
- Progressive healthcare leadership experience within a community hospital, rural hospital, or Critical Access Hospital environment
- Financial, operational, and productivity management experience within a hospital setting
- Experience supporting organizational growth, operational improvement initiatives, and community engagement efforts
- California healthcare experience preferred; Critical Access Hospital experience strongly preferred
- Swing bed service-line experience preferred
