About this role

What’s This Role All About?

We’re looking for a Youth Advocate to join our Youth Services Team and support LGBTQQ+ youth who access LYRIC’s school-based and community-based programs.

A key focus of this role is supporting transgender women and femmes. We are seeking someone with demonstrated experience working directly with trans women and femmes and an understanding of the strengths, experiences, and systemic barriers impacting these communities. At the same time, this position works across LYRIC’s diverse communities and will support LGBTQQ+ youth with a wide range of identities, experiences, and needs.

Youth Advocates play a critical role in program planning, implementation, and evaluation while offering direct services, case management, youth leadership development, and community-building opportunities.

You’ll guide young people through skill-building activities, facilitate support groups, develop curriculum, and support youth in navigating systems, from healthcare and schools to public benefits and community resources—using a short-term, goal-focused model.

🧭 Direct Support & Case Management

  • Provide youth-centered, culturally grounded case management for LGBTQQ+ young people across LYRIC’s communities.
  • Maintain a particular focus on providing culturally responsive and gender-affirming support to transgender women and femmes.
  • Conduct intakes, assessments, and individualized service planning using a strengths-based and social justice–centered approach.
  • Maintain an active caseload and support youth in achieving short-term goals.
  • Support youth in navigating healthcare, housing, education, public benefits, and other systems and services.
  • Ensure smooth transitions from LYRIC services to community resources and supports.

🤝 Outreach & Community Partnerships

  • Conduct outreach to communities facing significant barriers to resources and services, including transgender women and femmes, QTBIPOC youth, youth engaged in sex work, undocumented youth, disabled youth, system-impacted youth, and youth with health needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, community-based organizations, city partners, and youth-serving agencies.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with organizations and providers serving transgender women and femmes as well as other LGBTQQ+ communities.
  • Coordinate and staff community events, youth-led activities, and LYRIC-wide gatherings.

Who You Are

  • A seasoned youth development professional with at least 2 years of experience in case management, program coordination, or direct youth services.
  • Experienced working directly with transgender women and femmes and able to provide culturally responsive, gender-affirming support that centers their dignity, autonomy, strengths, and leadership.
  • Comfortable applying that experience while working across a broad range of LGBTQQ+ communities, identities, and lived experiences.
  • Skilled in group facilitation, curriculum development, crisis intervention, and restorative or harm reduction practices.
  • Knowledgeable about health and wellness issues affecting youth with complex needs, including HIV/STIs, mental health, and access to affirming healthcare.
  • Deeply knowledgeable about issues impacting LGBTQQ+ youth, including those who are QTBIPOC, undocumented, disabled, system-involved, engaged in sex work, or living with health needs.
  • Familiar with San Francisco and Bay Area youth resources, particularly resources serving LGBTQQ+ communities, transgender communities, and youth of color.
  • Comfortable working in a multiracial, multicultural, multigender, and intergenerational environment.
