Job Title:                     Youth Ambassador-SEA for Youth

Location:                     St. John’s, NL

Position Type:             5 part-time positions, each for a period of 40 weeks from the start date

Closing date:               Until filled

 

Reporting to the Project Lead - SEA for Youth, the Youth Ambassador-SEA for Youth supports the delivery of culturally responsive and trauma-informed education digital safety and exploitation prevention. This role focuses on engaging newcomer youth in schools and community settings across Newfoundland and Labrador through a peer-to-peer learning model.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

Program Delivery:

  • Complete a six-module training program including the topics: digital safety and exploitation prevention, trauma-informed facilitation skills, disclosure and reporting protocols, rights and responsibilities and self-care practices
  • Co-facilitate the SEA for Youth presentations to newcomer youth in junior and senior high schools in the St. John’s metropolitan area and in communities across the province, alongside the Project Lead
  • Support delivery of presentations through youth community-based programs
  • Participate in peer-to-peer engagement by sharing lived experience, where comfortable and appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant information in accordance with organizational policies

Program Support:

  • Complete session debrief reports within 24 hours following each facilitated session
  • Attend scheduled monthly check-ins (group and individual) with the Project Lead
  • Assist with outreach to newcomer youth through peer networks, social media and community channels as appropriate
  • Report any participant disclosures or concerns to the Project Lead.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Lived experience as an immigrant, refugee, or newcomer in Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage groups confidently
  • Basic proficiency in digital tools and social media platforms
  • Ability to approach sensitive topics (e.g., online exploitation, grooming) in a respectful and supportive manner
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Additional languages are an asset
  • Experience volunteering or working with newcomer communities, youth programs, or community-based organizations is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and organizational skills
  • Interest in community engagement, youth education, digital safety, or newcomer youth advocacy

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada
  • Be between the ages of 14-24
  • Availability to work flexible hours
  • Occasional travel throughout Newfoundland and Labrador is required.
  • This position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
