Western Area Power Administration

Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) is a power marketing administration in the United States Department of Energy that manages and markets electric power from hydroelectric and other renewable energy sources. It was established in 1977 to develop and operate a high-voltage transmission system for the transport of electric power generated by federal hydroelectric projects in the western United States. WAPA is responsible for delivering power to more than 15 million people across 15 states in the western and central United States, and it provides vital electric power to rural communities, Native American tribes, and military installations.
