ABOUT LUMILENS

At Lumilens we are building the critical photonics infrastructure that powers tomorrow’s AI supercomputing. From chip-to-chip optical interconnects to scalable photonic engines, Lumilens is unlocking a new era of computing - faster, cooler, and massively more efficient.

We’re a well-funded startup backed by Mayfield and led by veterans who’ve built and scaled some of the most transformative technologies in the industry. At Lumilens, we’re developing high-speed photonics products purpose-built to power the future of AI infrastructure and high-performance computing.

This isn’t incremental innovation, it’s a ground-floor opportunity to rethink the optical layer from the silicon up. You’ll work alongside a team of world-class engineers solving some of the hardest challenges in scaling optical systems. Every line of code, every design decision, every breakthrough you help deliver will shape the infrastructure of tomorrow.

If you're looking for mission, momentum, and the chance to make an outsized impact, jump on the rocket ship. We’re just getting started.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Test Engineer is responsible for performing functional, performance, and reliability testing on optical transceiver products (SFP, SFP+, QSFP, QSFP-DD, OSFP, CFP, etc.) throughout the manufacturing process, ensuring products meet OEM customer specifications and industry standards (MSA, IEEE, ITU, Telcordia) prior to shipment. Working alongside Test Engineering, Quality, and Production, this is a hands-on role at the line and in the lab — running test stations, maintaining fixtures and instrumentation, and turning test data into actionable findings that improve yield and throughput as Lumilens scales its optical interconnect products into high-volume manufacturing.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final testing of optical transceivers (e.g., optical power, sensitivity, extinction ratio, wavelength, BER, eye diagram, jitter, TX/RX parametric testing).

  • Operate and maintain test equipment such as BERTs, optical power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, TEC controllers, and automated test stations.

  • Execute test plans and procedures according to OEM customer specifications and MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) standards.

  • Log, analyze, and report test data; identify and flag out-of-spec units, and support failure analysis and root cause investigation.

  • Calibrate and troubleshoot test fixtures, jigs, and automated test equipment (ATE).

  • Support burn-in, environmental (temperature/humidity), and reliability testing (e.g., HTOL, thermal cycling).

  • Maintain accurate documentation, test records, and traceability per quality system requirements (ISO 9001 / IATF / TL 9000, as applicable).

  • Collaborate with Test Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to improve test yield, throughput, and process efficiency.

  • Support new product introduction (NPI) test bring-up and validation for new OEM programs.

  • Ensure compliance with ESD, laser safety, and handling procedures for optical and electronic components.

  • Assist in developing or refining test scripts/software (Python, LabVIEW, TCL) alongside engineering, as needed.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Electronics, Photonics, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience will be considered.

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience testing optical transceivers or similar photonic/optoelectronic components in a manufacturing or OEM environment.

  • Working knowledge of optical transceiver form factors (SFP/SFP+/SFP28, QSFP/QSFP28/QSFP-DD, OSFP, CFP2/CFP4) and MSA specifications.

  • Familiarity with optical and electrical test parameters: optical power, wavelength, extinction ratio, sensitivity, jitter, eye diagrams, and BER.

  • Experience operating test instruments: optical power meters, OSAs, BERTs, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers.

  • Understanding of fiber optic handling, cleaning, and connector types (LC, MPO/MTP).

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, test procedures, and datasheets.

  • Basic data analysis skills (Excel; scripting a plus).

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting OEM/ODM customer qualification and PPAP/FA (First Article) processes.

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, TL 9000, or IATF 16949 quality systems.

  • Scripting and automation experience (Python, LabVIEW, TCL, Perl).

  • Experience with 100G/400G/800G transceiver testing.

  • Prior experience in a cleanroom or ESD-controlled manufacturing environment.

  • Laser safety training or certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a lab and production environment, including standing for extended periods.

  • Ability to handle small precision components and use fine tools.

  • Comfortable working near Class 1 laser sources following established safety protocols.
