Description of Work

This position is located at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine, NC a medium custody male facility.

This position reports directly to the Associate Warden of Programs, and is responsible for the following duties, including but not limited to:

- Direct programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the prison system.
- Administer programs for offenders where the primary programs areas are offender classification; correctional programs (including work release, incentive wage, educational/vocational, volunteer programs, religion, cognitive-based interventions, and recreation); and correctional supportive counseling.
- Coordinate programs with custody and other facility staff.
- Supervise subordinate personnel responsible for implementation, development, and maintenance of programs.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $43,267.00 - $75,718.00

The salary grade for this position is NC10.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.

About The Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
