As a Design Manager – A/E, you will lead the planning, coordination, and management of the architectural and engineering design process for major educational facilities projects. Working closely with District staff, architects, consultants, and project teams, you will help ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with District standards while supporting the successful delivery of high-quality educational facilities.

About Your Role

The Design Manager – A/E is responsible for managing, developing, and coordinating the District's architectural and engineering design process to ensure projects meet functional program requirements, budgetary objectives, environmental considerations, and applicable legal requirements. This position oversees multiple capital improvement projects from planning through design while serving as the primary liaison between the District, design professionals, and project stakeholders.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from a recognized college or university required.

What You'll Need to Get the Job Done

• Minimum of eight (8) years of full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design or the planning and coordination of capital projects, including overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience supporting the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agency projects.
• Strong knowledge of architectural and engineering design management, project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and contract administration.
• Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect issued by the California State Architectural Board, or
• Valid Professional Engineer license issued by the California State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

What You'll Do

• Manage, develop, and coordinate the District's design process for Architectural and Engineering (A&E) services to ensure plans comply with functional program requirements, budgetary objectives, environmental considerations, and legal requirements.
• Manage multiple projects, including engineering repair and critical repair projects, through coordination with architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure timely project completion.
• Oversee the building design process to ensure compliance with District standards and guidelines by collaborating with design professionals and District administrators to deliver facilities that meet educational and building standards.
• Establish and implement a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on qualifications and demonstrated performance.
• Provide architects with clear and consistent direction regarding project goals, objectives, standards, site requirements, schedules, and budgets.
• Establish and manage an effective and efficient design review process to ensure project designs meet overall goals and objectives.
• Promote design solutions that provide maximum value for budgeted funds while meeting the functional needs of the District, local community, and environment.
• Review design changes to ensure projects remain within established budgets.
• Monitor project planning and design progress and provide findings, recommendations, and status updates to District leadership.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary

• $179,000.00 – $189,000.00 annually
