About this role

Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue Iho Ake is a Ngāti Whakaue leadership organisation working across education, te reo Māori, housing development and social wellbeing. We're looking for a Key Worker to join our Housing & Wellbeing team, walking alongside manahā across Rotorua that are experiencing homelessness.

About the role

Fixed-term position through to June 2028, open to full-time or part-time,based in Rotorua.

As a Key Worker, you'll provide ongoing, whānau-centred case coordination and practical support to people finding their way into stable housing under our Housing First programme, including supporting manahā with mental health and addiction challenges. You won’t be doing this alone, you will be working within a supportive team, including people with lived experience and clinical expertise so you'll know when to draw on specialist expertise and when to keep walking alongside someone yourself. You'll build trusted relationships, provide support in homes and community settings, and coordinate the practical steps, from finding a home to setting it up and sustaining the tenancy, while connecting people to the right support along the way.

What you'll be doing

  • Building trusted, respectful relationships with the people and whānau you support
  • Providing practical support in homes, the community and at appointments
  • Helping people access housing, income support, health services and everyday essentials
  • Coordinating warm referrals and support plans with internal and external services
  • Supporting people through housing viewings, move-ins, tenancy set-up and sustainment
  • Keeping accurate, timely records and escalating risks or concerns promptly

What you'll bring

  • Experience supporting people facing homelessness, housing instability, trauma or complex needs — through social services, housing, community work, Whānau Ora, health, youth work or a related field
  • An understanding of (or willingness to learn) Housing First, trauma-informed care or practice, and kaupapa Māori approaches to practice
  • Strong relationship-building, communication and case coordination skills
  • Confidence maintaining accurate records and using systems like Monday.com or Microsoft Office
  • A full, current New Zealand Driver Licence
  • An openness to te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, or a willingness to keep growing in this area

Why join us

You'll be part of a kaupapa Māori organisation guided by manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, kaitiakitanga, pono me te tika and mana motuhake — doing meaningful, mana-enhancing work that changes lives, backed by a team that has your back.
