About this role

Join ABC Fitness and become part of a culture that’s as ambitious as it is authentic. Let’s transform the future of fitness—together!

Our Values

Best Life

We believe great work begins with great people. That’s why our culture is built on respect, trust, and belonging. We create an inclusive environment where every team member can bring their authentic self to work—because diverse perspectives drive innovation and meaningful impact.

Growth Mindset

We are doers, thinkers, and dreamers. At ABC Fitness, your growth is our investment. Through continuous learning, mentorship, and professional development opportunities, we empower you to reach new heights—personally and professionally.

One Team

From day one, you’ll be part of a team that collaborates, celebrates, and cares. We move fast, support one another, and have fun along the way. Because when you thrive, we all thrive.

As our Lead QA Engineer (SDET / QA Automation), you'll build comprehensive, scalable technology and software designed to manage and grow fitness businesses of all sizes. We are looking for a visionary quality engineering technical leader to design and implement advanced test automation frameworks, embed artificial intelligence throughout the QA lifecycle, drive UI visual regression testing capabilities, champion DORA metrics adoption, and elevate overall release confidence — all while growing and mentoring the QA practice through standards, tooling, and cross-functional partnership.

You will lead through test strategy, automation architecture, AI-augmented quality practices, quality standards, mentoring, and cross-functional partnership — not through people management.

If that vision excites you, this is where it gets built. You will spend your days on the test automation and quality systems that protect fitness experiences for millions, in an environment where AI agents are part of how you think, build, test, and review. Every framework you build, every AI-assisted insight you surface, and every standard you set helps prove that AI-native engineering is not a side project here — it is how we build.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

QA Technical Leadership & Agile Execution

  • Be an active participant and lead day-to-day Scrum activities of the team as needed, including planning, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives.

  • Review and evaluate business requirements in the form of user stories; lead work breakdown and estimation of tasks based on requirements; provide alternative solutions and negotiate with Product Management.

  • Own small to mid-sized engineering/QA projects or product areas.

  • Lead technical projects; define and oversee test automation and quality delivery for your squad.

  • Review teammates' work to ensure quality and adherence to system architecture and best practices; identify where new designs will require architectural or testability changes.

  • Troubleshoot and reproduce customer-found issues in a timely manner.

  • May supervise the work of QA vendor resources.

AI-Augmented QA & Generative AI

  • Lead the integration of AI and Generative AI (Gen AI) tooling into the QA process, including AI-assisted test generation, intelligent defect triage, and predictive quality analysis.

  • Apply hands-on experience with Gen AI platforms (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to accelerate test case creation, test data generation, and documentation.

  • Evaluate, adopt, and champion AI-native QA tools and agentic IDE development practices, including agent-based QA tooling and intelligent test maintenance.

  • Partner with engineering and product teams to identify opportunities where AI can reduce manual testing burden and increase test coverage and precision.

  • Stay current on advancements in AI/ML as applied to software quality and advocate for their adoption within the QA practice.

UI Visual Comparison & Regression Testing

  • Architect and implement UI visual regression testing capabilities to detect unintended visual changes across application releases and platform updates.

  • Select, configure, and maintain visual comparison tooling (e.g., Applitools, Percy, Playwright visual comparisons, or similar) integrated into CI/CD pipelines.

  • Define baseline management standards, screenshot comparison strategies, and tolerance thresholds for visual diffs across browsers and device viewports.

  • Partner with frontend engineers and designers to ensure visual test coverage aligns with design system standards and accessibility requirements.

  • Drive adoption of visual testing as a first-class quality gate within the software delivery lifecycle.

DORA Metrics & Engineering Excellence

  • Lead the organization's DORA metrics (Deployment Frequency, Lead Time for Changes, Change Failure Rate, and Mean Time to Restore) measurement and improvement initiative across engineering teams.

  • Establish baseline DORA metric reporting, define targets, and build dashboards that provide actionable visibility to engineering leadership and squads.

  • Identify quality and process bottlenecks that negatively impact DORA metrics and drive initiatives to address them through automation, improved test coverage, and CI/CD optimization.

  • Champion a continuous improvement culture by connecting QA practices directly to DORA outcomes, including reducing change failure rates through shift-left testing and faster test feedback loops.

  • Collaborate with DevOps, SRE, and platform engineering teams to align QA practices with reliability and deployment velocity goals.

Automation Architecture & Frameworks

  • Develop high-quality code; contribute to development standards by setting new patterns and best practices for test automation.

  • Write architecture and design documentation for test frameworks and quality plans as needed.

  • Design reusable test components utilizing standard frameworks; experiment with new technologies that can enhance our QA tech stack.

  • Support and contribute to build, deployment, and monitoring processes with an emphasis on security, performance, and scalability.

  • May participate in build vs. buy analysis and complex decision making for test tooling.

  • Conduct regular, self-guided study to stay current on new and existing technologies; evaluate emerging technologies and practices for suitability at ABC Fitness

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software QA Engineering, or related field (or equivalent industry experience).

  • 6+ years of software development or SDET experience with a strong automation focus.

  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript for test automation, tooling, and framework development.

  • Strong understanding of unit testing, integration testing, load testing, and related tools.

  • Significant experience in full life cycle system development including design, building, testing, deployment, upgrade, and support.

  • Experience with application lifecycle management tools (e.g., JIRA) and concepts for version control, work item tracking, and continuous integration.

  • Hands-on experience with REST API testing.

  • Strong knowledge of BDD/TDD methodologies.

  • Familiarity with SQL databases and queries for test data validation.

  • Experience with exploratory testing.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Generative AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or equivalent) applied to software engineering or QA workflows.

  • Experience implementing UI visual regression and comparison testing frameworks (e.g., Applitools, Percy, Playwright, or similar) in a CI/CD pipeline.

  • Proven experience leading or contributing to DORA metrics measurement and improvement efforts across engineering teams.

  • Experience in applying different techniques, tools, and approaches based on context.

  • Experience testing technically complex systems including microservice-oriented and distributed systems with fail-safe requirements.

  • Experience with shift-left testing (early in development) and shift-right testing (in production environments) techniques.

  • Strong problem-solving skills; critical thinking and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills for collaborating with developers, product managers, and stakeholders.

  • Knowledgeable about performance tuning, scalability, security, reliability, and other non-functional testing concepts.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience building or evaluating AI-powered test generation and intelligent test maintenance pipelines.

  • Familiarity with LLM prompt engineering as applied to QA automation and test case design.

  • Experience with agentic-IDE development and testing practices.

  • Hands-on experience with security testing and performance testing.

  • Experience establishing or owning an engineering metrics program including DORA and other delivery health indicators.

  • Prior exposure to fitness/wellness products and multi-tenant SaaS products.
