Lease Accountant

Role Purpose

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Lease Accounting Specialist with a strong background in IFRS 16 and expertise in Oracle systems to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for resolving complex lease accounting issues and ensuring compliance with IFRS 16 standards within our Oracle ERP system. This role requires a deep understanding of lease accounting principles, proficiency in Oracle, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 

Key responsibilities

IFRS Compliance:

• End-to-end IFRS 16 lease accounting — ROU assets and lease liabilities across multi-currency lease portfolios
• Foreign exchange translation and remeasurement of lease balances (IAS 21) across cross-border entities
• Lease structures tied to infrastructure sharing/pooling arrangements — duct, tower, and network infrastructure leases, IRUs, and co-location contracts
• Lease modifications, disposals, reassessments, and ARO provisioning
• Partnering with legal, network ops, and treasury teams on new leases and contract changes

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

• IFRS 16 disclosures — maturity profiles, ROU roll-forwards, discount rate sensitivity
  Partnering with legal, network ops, and treasury Analyse financial data related to leases and provide insights to senior management.
• Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closing activities for lease accounting.
• Prepare a reconciliation between Cost of sales to Leases reconciliation

Process Improvement:

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of lease accounting.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of lease accounting processes and procedures.
• Train and support finance team members on IFRS 16 and Oracle system functionalities.

Audit and Compliance:

• Assist with internal and external audits related to lease accounting.
• Ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies regarding lease accounting.

Individual Profile:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CA, ACCA, or equivalent certification is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in lease accounting, with a strong focus on IFRS 16.
• Proven experience with Oracle ERP systems, specifically in lease accounting modules.
• In-depth knowledge of IFRS 16 lease accounting standards and principles.
• Proficiency in Oracle ERP systems, including system configuration and troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Experience in a multinational corporation or complex organizational structures.
• Experience with data migration and system integration projects.
