As a Patient Care Technician you will work in a fast-paced, 30-bed short-stay Observation unit located adjacent to the Emergency Department and managed by hospitalists. Serving primarily patients admitted through the ED, the unit focuses on providing efficient, high-quality care with the goal of discharge or transfer within 24 hours, although some patients may remain longer based on placement needs and capacity. With approximately 17 admissions and 10 discharges each day, team members thrive in an environment characterized by constant patient movement and rapid turnover. Patient Care Technicians play a vital role by providing direct patient care, including vital signs, ADL assistance, and admission/discharge support, while also assisting with unit secretary responsibilities such as answering phones, greeting visitors, and supporting clerical workflows. Working closely alongside nurses in a highly collaborative team environment, this role is ideal for proactive, adaptable individuals who enjoy staying busy and delivering exceptional patient care. Nursing students, Medical Assistants, EMTs, and candidates who excel in dynamic, team-oriented settings may be especially well-suited for this opportunity.

This position is a full-time Night shift working with 3-12 hour shifts from 6:00 PM–6:30 AM.

We offer self-scheduling for shift and weekend coverage. Scheduled workdays may vary, as there are no set or fixed days. Weekend and Holiday Rotations are required in this role. Weekend shift differentials are offered, along with evening and night shift differentials where applicable.

Responsibilities:

Job Summary
Provides patient related care tasks based on the principles of growth and development across the life span of patients served in his/her independent unit. Assists, observes, and reports patient changes to licensed caregiver and maintains accurate medical record documentation relative to the care delivered.
Essential Functions
  • Provides and collaborates direct patient care services under the direct supervisor of a licensed caregiver. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to personal care, activities of daily living, vital signs, intake and output, ambulation, interventions, and implementation of selected portions of the patient care plan as directed under supervisor of nurse.
  • Assists, observes and reports changes in patient condition to licensed caregiver and maintains accurate medical record documentation in relation to the care delivered.
  • Addresses and/or directs questions or concerns from patients, families, caregivers, or health care team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED - Required
Experience
  • Completion of Block 1 in Nursing OR Medical Assistant (MA) OR Nursing Assistant (NA) OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) OR Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) OR 6 months of experience in the healthcare setting within the last year - Required
  • 6 months in acute care experience. - Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Preferred
  • Clinical Other\EMT - Emergency Medical Tech - Preferred
