Role Description:

The Lecturer or Senior Lecturer is responsible for the design and delivery of curriculum, leading academic innovation, supervising research students, and ensuring academic quality through continuous improvement of teaching practices and learning materials. This role contributes to a culture of scholarly excellence and supports the professional development of junior faculty members.

This is a dynamic and highly respected academic position that influences both student success and institutional performance. The Lecturer or Senior Lecturer actively collaborates across schools and departments, contributing to interdisciplinary initiatives and digital transformation projects.

The Lecturer or Senior Lecturer reports to the Head of School (Education). This role demands a high level of autonomy, professional integrity, and proactive academic leadership


Key Responsibilities:

In a highly student-focused role, the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer should focus on strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills. It is also essential that you understand Global Management Best Practices and local industry trends. Lecturer or Senior Lecturer duties will involve managing and monitoring undergraduate/postgraduate programmes. This includes associated operational administration, curriculum development, course materials review and quality management and enhancement, ensuring a cohesive and effective educational experience. Senior Lecturer duties include but are not limited to the following:


Learning & Teaching

  • Deliver high-quality lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions at undergraduate/ postgraduate levels for both IBSU and SCU units.
  • Ensure the quality of tutor classes and complete the assigned syllabus within the scheduled time, in alignment with the Academic Calendar.
  • Tutor specific academic subjects to individuals or small groups using predetermined institutional resources.
  • Develop, review, and continuously enhance course content, teaching methodologies, and learning materials to support effective student-centered learning.
  • Utilize all available teaching aids and technology tools to enhance students' understanding and engagement with the subject matter.
  • Monitor student attendance, engagement, and academic progress consistently.
  • Ensure academic benchmarks for lectures are met as per the Key Performance Measures (KPMs) and strategic plan of the school by the end of each semester.


Lesson Preparation, Assessment & Examination Duties

  • Design, develop, and deliver face-to-face, online, blended, and flexible learning materials as assigned, ensuring they foster meaningful discussions and keep students actively engaged and motivated.
  • Ensure that unit/course design and delivery comply with quality standards and regulations of the University.
  • Assist in the conduct of examinations as per the instructions of the Examination Section, including the preparation of question banks and answer keys, marking of internal assessments, and duties related to supervision/ invigilation
  • Prepare and Submit Assessment check documents and DRMS promptly


Student Learning Experience

  • Provide a high-quality, inclusive, and engaging learning experience that supports students in achieving prescribed learning outcomes.
  • Supervise student projects, capstone work, and academic components of field trips, ensuring alignment with course objectives and safety protocols.
  • Offer academic mentoring and pastoral care, responding to student concerns with empathy and professionalism.
  • Support students’ participation in co-curricular and extracurricular activities that contribute to their personal and professional development.
  • Coordinate regular meetings and maintain effective communication with students to monitor academic progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Encourage independent learning and critical thinking through guided inquiry, project-based learning, and collaborative activities.
  • Facilitate opportunities for peer interaction and community-building within the learning environment.
  • Promote awareness of academic integrity, ethical conduct, and responsible digital citizenship among students.

 

Research, Scholarship & Innovation:

  • Conduct original and innovative research in areas relevant to Education/recent developments.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed, high-impact journals and present at recognized academic conferences.
  • Lead or collaborate on research projects, including applying for and securing external funding.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and innovation initiatives with the approval of the Head of School and the IBSU Research Centre.
  • Extend active support and contributions to IBSU’s internal research activities and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with researchers at institutional, national, and international levels to contribute to the School’s and University's research objectives.
  • Participate in subject-specific and professional development to enhance research-informed teaching.
  • Maintain active involvement and recognized contributions to relevant academic associations and professional bodies.


Student Supervision and Support

  • Supervise undergraduate/postgraduate research projects, ensuring academic rigor, timely progress, and ethical compliance.
  • Offer academic advising, mentoring, and career guidance to support students’ personal and professional development.
  • Foster an inclusive, engaging, and student-centered learning environment that respects diversity and encourages active participation.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement in student learning outcomes and academic performance.
  • Monitor student progress and intervene early in cases of academic difficulty, referring to appropriate support services when necessary.
  • Encourage student involvement in academic forums, conferences, internships, and co-curricular activities to enhance experiential learning.
  • Maintain accessibility and open communication with students through regular consultation hours and digital platforms.
  • Promote academic integrity and ethical conduct in all aspects of student engagement and assessment.


Curriculum Development

  • Design and deliver curriculum content that reflects current industry practices, academic standards, and emerging trends in the field of Education and Educational Technology.
  • Develop and produce high-quality learning materials that are relevant, inclusive, and accessible across diverse learning environments.
  • Take responsibility for the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of modules, including appropriate assessment strategies aligned with learning outcomes.
  • Create course and unit materials that support active learning, critical thinking, and practical application for undergraduate programmes.
  • Align curriculum content with national qualifications frameworks, accreditation requirements, and institutional learning goals.
  • Integrate digital tools and innovative pedagogical approaches to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and industry stakeholders to ensure curriculum relevance and employability of graduates.
  • Contribute to curriculum review cycles, including feedback analysis, data-driven enhancements, and curriculum mapping to graduate attributes.

 

Academic Leadership

  • Provide mentorship and academic guidance to junior faculty, tutors, and new staff members.
  • Lead or actively contribute to academic committees, working groups, and program coordination initiatives.
  • Contribute to policy development, curriculum planning, and the maintenance of high academic standards in line with institutional goals.
  • Promote a culture of academic excellence, integrity, and collaborative engagement within the school and across the university.


Industry and Community Engagement

  • Build/extend support in partnerships with industry and community stakeholders for curriculum relevance, internships, and research collaboration.
  • Represent the institution in professional networks, conferences, and community initiatives.



Adherence to Academic Calendar, IBSU Guidelines, Policies, and Procedures

  • Ensure timely completion of all academic responsibilities, including lesson delivery, assessment design, grading, and course coordination, in strict accordance with the university’s Academic Calendar.
  • Follow all IBSU policies, procedures, and quality assurance frameworks across teaching, research, and student engagement domains.
  • Submit grades, reports, and other academic documentation within institutional deadlines.
  • Participate constructively in academic reviews, internal audits, and continuous improvement initiatives as guided by the university.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and ensure compliance with all institutional and regulatory standards.


General Duties

  • Attend and present at relevant academic and professional conferences, share insights, research outcomes, and best practices with colleagues across schools when required.
  • Collaborate effectively with teaching, technical, and administrative staff to support the smooth functioning of academic and operational processes.
  • Undertake administrative duties as assigned by the Head of School, Division, or Registrar, contributing to academic planning, coordination, and governance.
  • Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) activities to enhance tutorial effectiveness, subject knowledge, and cultural competence in diverse learning environments.
  • Provide collegial support in school-wide and university-wide events, projects, or operational activities as and when required.
  • Actively engage in institutional staff development programs related to learning and teaching innovation, curriculum design, and technology integration.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and share professional expertise to support the university’s broader educational mission and community engagement goals.
  • Demonstrate leadership and initiative in fostering a positive, inclusive, and respectful academic environment.
  • Expected to attend daily morning reflection meetings and academic meetings.
  • Informing leave/short leave (if any) via the Bamboo HR system/HRM system is mandatory.

Selection Criteria:

The following criteria are considered to be ESSENTIAL:

  • Master’s Degree or Higher in any of the following fields: Education, Educational Technology, Information Technology, Educational Leadership and Management or a closely related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in teaching for National applicants and at least 3 years of experience in teaching for Expatriate applicants.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students and all levels of employees and management.
  • Excellent evidence-based judgement, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to review programme design regularly to ensure compliance with quality standards and academic regulations and to make alterations where appropriate.
  • Ability to demonstrate equivalent core knowledge in units taken.
  • Ability to use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students.
  • Capacity to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, management, other organizations and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate and impart complex conceptual ideas in a variety of ways – presentations, reports, journal articles, etc.
  • Ability to plan workloads and projects and manage resources effectively.

  • Experience in education and coaching staff
  • Demonstrated administrative skills
  • Prior experience teaching within a Bachelor of Education programme or teacher-training institution.
  • Experience with programming, web systems, or database concepts relevant to BEDBL's IT-integrated units.
  • Experience supervising school-based Professional Experience placements or practicum.
  • A demonstrated record of research, scholarship, or publication relevant to education or educational technology.

 

Other role-related information:

  • The role is based at IBS Mt Eriama Campus but is required to support other sites for the responsive delivery of services and to maintain liaison with all key stakeholders.
  • The role is also required to liaise with external regulatory authorities at their place of business outside university premises.
  • Some attendance outside normal working hours may be required from time to time for effective performance of the position.
