Job Overview

The Technical Support Specialist will be assisting with the Critical Readings in Systems Medicine Course (SYSM-5930) which is a core course in the Systems Medicine MS program. The course is designed so students provide critical summary and presentations of the cutting-edge technologies used in Systems and Network Medicine. This role is necessary to provide academic and technical support to the students and the faculty from a person experienced and knowledgeable in the subject matter.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • The Technical Support Specialist (TSS) will assist the faculty by monitoring and answering students’ technical questions,

  • Assist in creation of hands-on materials in support of the technical part of the course.

  • Be present in class every week during student presentations for technical support.

Work Interactions

The Technical Support Specialist will be supervised directly by Dr. Sona Vasudevan, Director, Systems Medicine Program and Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The mission to enhance the student learning experience by creating materials that will provide extra support. Systems Medicine is a new and an emerging filed. The Critical Reading in the Systems Medicine course is a journal club formatted course where students read specific papers and present to the class to stimulate discussions. Selecting relevant papers is a huge task. In addition, students write summaries of the papers they read. The goal is to provide each student personalized technical feedback so they learn to write a summary of a research article.

Requirements and Qualifications

A M.S. or higher degree is required in biomedical sciences field; Systems Medicine background preferred.

 Pay Range 

The projected hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $18.00 - $22.00. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
