Role OverviewÂ
The Social Media Manager leads BCI’s digital storytelling across all platforms — from long-term campaign strategies to rapid-response content. This role is designed for someone fluent in platform culture, who understands both climate and technology narratives, and knows how to translate complex work into sharp, engaging content.Â
You’ll be responsible for growing audiences, increasing engagement, and ensuring that BCI’s digital presence remains timely, credible, and on-message.Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
Strategy & ExecutionÂ
- Lead BCI’s social media strategy across X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging platformsÂ
Â
- Develop and manage a flexible editorial calendar balancing campaign content with real-time responsesÂ
Â
- Ensure all content reflects BCI’s tone, priorities, and strategic communication goalsÂ
Â
- Coordinate with the Senior Communications Manager on narrative development and cross-platform messagingÂ
Â
- Launch, manage, and report on multi-channel campaigns for events, policy work, publications, and partnershipsÂ
Â
- Optimise all visual and written content for platform-specific engagement and accessibilityÂ

Real-Time EngagementÂ
- Monitor climate news, policy developments, and tech trends to engage in timely conversationsÂ
Â
- Live-tweet and provide social coverage during events like COP, ISO meetings, or global summitsÂ
Â
- Build and maintain relationships with partner orgs, journalists, and climate-tech stakeholders via social channelsÂ
Â
Creative CollaborationÂ
- Work with Graphic Designers and Video Editors to brief and adapt visual content for each platformÂ
Â
- Shape Instagram Reels, Stories, Threads, and Twitter/X posts into cohesive campaignsÂ
Â
- Provide creative input into copy, layout, and platform experimentsÂ
Â
- Mentor junior volunteers contributing to BCI social media
Experience and Skills
- Proven experience managing social media accounts for a nonprofit, advocacy, or policy-driven organisationÂ
Â
- Exceptional short-form writing skills for platforms like Twitter and InstagramÂ
Â
- Strong visual instincts; familiarity with layout, timing, and mobile-first storytellingÂ
Â
- Demonstrated ability to lead fast-paced content cycles from idea to postÂ
Â
- Familiarity with engagement analytics and platform metricsÂ

- Comfortable using tools like Hootsuite, Buffer, Later, or SproutÂ

- Basic skills in Canva, Adobe Express, or Figma for resizing or visual prepÂ

- Understanding of digital accessibility and visual equity principles
