Junior Editor
About this role
JUNIOR EDITOR
Location: Cape Town, South Africa (studio-based, with on-location shoots)
Reports to: Creative Producer & Senior Editor
Type: Full-time
Salary: Market-related, based on experience
About Waterkant Studio
Waterkant Studio is a hospitality content studio based in Cape Town. We produce strategy, content, and media libraries for a group of hospitality brands, including a wine farm and restaurant, family vineyards, and UK-based partners. Our work spans branded video, photography, podcast production, and on-location shoots.
The Role
We're looking for a Junior Editor to join our small production team. You'll work across video and audio content — cutting footage from on-location shoots, assembling podcast episodes, and maintaining our media library — under the direction of the Creative Producer & Senior Editor. This isn't a button-pusher role: we need someone with a cinematic eye and a feel for story, who can take direction and cut in service of the group's bigger picture.
*If you're driven, creative, and excited to produce high-quality work, we'd love to see what you can bring to the team.
Responsibilities
- Assist the senior editor with all aspects of the post-production workflow
- Edit video content for client deliverables: short-form social cuts, long-form brand films, and on-location shoot footage
- Assemble podcast episodes, including audio clean-up, basic mixing and sound syncing
- Organise, label, and archive raw and edited footage in the studio's media library
- Colour grade and colour correct footage to a consistent studio standard
- Add motion graphics, titles, and lower-thirds where required
- Export review versions and final deliverables in multiple formats and aspect ratios for different platforms
- Support on-set logistics for on-location shoots as needed (equipment prep, backup, file transfer)
- Work efficiently to meet production schedules and turnaround deadlines set by the Creative Producer and Senior Editor
- Maintain version control and naming conventions across projects
Requirements
No muggles allowed.
- 1–2 years' experience editing video professionally (freelance, agency, or in-house)
- Cinematic eye — a strong, instinctive sense of composition and shot selection
- Storyteller — can shape footage into a narrative, not just cut it together
- Strong offline editing capability in both DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro
- Proficient in Frame.io for review and approval workflows
- Takes direction well and edits in service of the group's bigger picture, not just the brief in front of them
- Understanding of codecs, frame rates, and file management for multi-camera and drone footage
- Based in or able to commute to Cape Town
Nice to Have
- Experience creating motion graphics, animated titles, and branded visual assets (Extra points)
- Basic understanding of sound design
- Experience editing podcast or long-form interview content
- Photography or on-location production experience
What We Offer
- Direct mentorship from the studio's Creative Producer & Senior Editor
- Hands-on experience across video, podcast, and photography production
- Exposure to hospitality and lifestyle brand content work, including on-location shoots
